Good News for St. Vital and Winnipeg

On June 8th, 2020, I stopped by Greendell ⁩with MLA Rochelle Squires to meet with General Manager Darryl Elyk about some more good news. Good city (new rink boards coming) & provincial (summer green team) support for Greendell.

Out with the old, in with the new! St. Vital Arena - home of St. Vital Minor Hockey Association and the St. Vital Junior Victorias is getting an update! I was happy to contribute to this alongside the SVMHA and Don at Dakota Skate Care. We should also give an “assist” to Rochelle Squires who recently announced $20,000 in funding to help repair the St. Vital Arena.

On June 10th, I announced a $1,500 grant to help Heritage Winnipeg with Doors Open Winnipeg, set for Sept 12-13 to celebrate Manitoba 150. Funds were from the budget I receive as Chair of Council’s Property, Planning  and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development Committee.

Congrats to Glenwood Community Centre on their grant for $78,668 from the City’s Community Club renovation grants program. Almost doubles the $80,000 allocated in the City budget 2020 for rink board/glass project at Glenwood’s Arena.

I was inspired by Jamie Moses, MLA for St. Vital, and his efforts to pack food hampers for Louis Riel School Division families at Dakota Collegiate Institute. On June 11th, 2020, I joined LRSD staff for a few hours to help out with the hamper project.

Kudos to LRSD staff on this very well-organized effort!
