I attended the 6th Annual St. Vital Junior Victorias sports banquet with Councillor Scott Gillingham in support of the Ketler/Gobert family.

Happy to support the Vics!

March 6, 2020 - Budget 2020 Highlights

On Sept 11, 2012, I moved a motion to extend Handi-Transit services throughout the City, instead of denying service to citizens that reside more than 500 meters from a bus stop.
2020's budget FINALLY scraps the 500 meter rule!
Thanks to Independent Living Resource Centre and Patrick Stewart for their advocacy and to Mayor Brian Bowman for his support!
2020 City budget allocates $240,000 to build tennis/ pickleball courts in Ron Duhamel Park in the heart of Sage Creek.
A new amenity for this growing area in the St. Vital ward!
Buried within the roads section of Budget 2020, is a big innovation for gravel lanes. $350,000 per year will be re-allocated into “pulvimixing”. This is a kind of roto-tilling, to upgrade ageing gravel lanes.
The budget re-affirms that the City will contribute $100,000 for the Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre's accessible play structure, matching ⁦Dan Vandal's federal funding. With the upcoming fundraiser on March 17th, we are good to go!
Proud to add that Budget 2020 provides four more years of City funding ($150k per year) to the University of Winnipeg for Inner City Work/Study. Bringing together suburban and  inner-City youth, to work in the community and study Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

March 7, 2020

I attended the Walk on the Seine River in honour of Save Our Seine River Environment Inc.'s 30th anniversary.

I used the new bike/pedestrian tunnel under Fermor for the first time. The official opening of the tunnel is slated for the Spring.

My thanks to SOS for the river walk!

March 9, 2020

I spoke in delegation at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Innovation and Economic Development regarding my motion to bring 30% of Transit Plus (Handi Transit) back in-house.

Thanks to the committee who voted to explore bringing wheelchair calls back under city delivery.

While I am currently debating with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1505 over the budget, there was good cooperation on this file.

8 years in the making!

March 20, 2020

Proud to have voted for a budget that repeals the 500 meter rule so that Transit Plus (Handi Transit) will serve (as of 2021) all points within the boundaries of the City of Winnipeg.
